These could be much faster with the help of Fast API and also skipping 2 byte strings when possible.

Hi @ronag I have been working on optimizing SQLite read performance, here's what I have done

1. one byte string fast-path for text values as you suggested
2. Column names are now internalized and cached

Here's the benchmark, if this looks good I can raise a PR for this
